Ars Creatio
The project
The Centre of Creative Photography of Thrace has implemented the artistic–photographic project ARS CREATIO, a visual documentation of the productive life of the Evros region, seen through the lens of the Centre’s members.
Evros holds a long tradition that is not easily photographed. It is not about landscapes or the classic “must-see” views. It is about workplaces, machines that never stop, and people who produce and create. With this in mind, the Centre of Creative Photography of Thrace turns its gaze to a part of the region we don’t often look at: the productive fabric of the land.
The photographic exhibition is titled Ars Creatio — meaning art and creation. Not with the usual materials, but with metal, light, factories, and working hands. The combination of the two Latin words, Ars and Creatio, is more than a title; it feels like a small declaration. Art can be found where something new is born, where human skill meets effort, knowledge, and craft. And in Evros, this meeting has a long history.
The exhibition sets up a dialogue between two worlds we often see as unrelated: industry and art. Photographs depict industrial landscapes in almost poetic ways; portraits of workers resemble protagonists of a quiet narrative; scenes from workshops and factories suddenly look like cinematic sets. Production becomes image. Everyday life becomes a story. And art does not idealize — it simply observes.
Fourteen photographers travelled, entered places rarely open to the public, and captured an Evros not often shown in public discourse — a place of creation, not only of nature.
The exhibition ARS CREATIO will be presented in Alexandroupolis, offering the wider public the opportunity to experience art from a fresh perspective.
This artistic–photographic project is implemented with the financial support and under the auspices of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture.
The work is part of the programme “Creative Greece 2025”.
