The custom of Magali in Alexandroupolis is a celebration full of smells, sounds and traditions that echo through the streets of the city every New Year's Eve. Since 1945, with the liberation of the city, Magali has become a symbol of the rebirth and vitality of Alexandroupolis.

In the heart of winter, shopkeepers, with their doors open, place maggalli outside their shops, warming the cold atmosphere and filling the air with the beloved smell of roasted meats. Butchers and traders roast pork cuts and salted fat on the coals, creating a sense of intimacy and warmth.

The city is filled with sounds: zurnas, clarinets and dulcimers accompany the atmosphere, while people exchange wishes for the New Year. Every corner of the city is alive, the streets full of the anticipation of change, hope and celebration. Tables outside shops offer treats and drinks, welcoming passers-by and highlighting the welcoming spirit of the city.
